Warren HarrisIf you remember the satisfaction (if not outright joy) that marked your graduation from the Law Center, perhaps it’s time to revisit those emotions with the Class of 2010. I strongly encourage our alumni to join friends and families of our newest graduates who will gather on Sunday, May 16 in Hofheinz Pavilion to witness our commencement exercises. The keynote speaker is Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City and a Time Magazine “Man of the Year” after the 9/11 attacks. Across the country, law schools always vie for top commencement speakers – and Mayor Giuliani clearly underscores the growing national prominence of our school. Commencement ceremonies begin at noon at Hofheinz, and a reception follows at the Law Center campus. Please join us if you can.

There is a second chance to hear Mayor Giuliani – but it’s open ONLY to the core group of supporters of the Law Center. I’m speaking about the members of our Dean’s Society, who are cordially invited to a dinner with Mayor Giuliani on Monday, May 17. If your name is not yet included on the list of Dean’s Society members, now is the perfect time to add it. Membership begins at $2,500 – and your annual commitment guarantees you an invitation to this memorable dinner. The Dean’s Society benefits from special privileges and opportunities, and you can click here to contact Leah Gross and put your Dean’s Society membership wheels into motion.

FYI, we had a great turnout for last month’s annual Law Gala & Auction, and I will leave it to others to quantify the substantial monies that were raised to support the Law Center. Here’s my personal take: it was a great party! When you gather our classmates, friends, faculty and members of the judiciary in one room, it’s easy to see why the Law Center is such a great school. It was fun to get together with everyone, and special thanks go to Laura Gibson ’85 and her committee for the flawless execution of a terrific event. Justices Dale Wainwright and Eva Guzman of the Texas Supreme Court joined us from Austin, and numerous federal and state judges were also in attendance. Click here for a quick slideshow of pictures, which will also be posted to and the Law Center’s website. If you want the early jump on the next gala, add this date to your calendar: Saturday, March 26, 2011.

We’re planning new alumni events and activities for the coming months, and I promise that there will be plenty of opportunities to get involved. Please save the date for our Annual Meeting: 5:30 p.m. on June 9, 2010 at The Coronado Club.

I’ll look forward to seeing you on May 16 at Commencement 2010!
