Our goal is to create a world-class legal learning environment within an innovative new Law Center building.
Established in 1947, the University of Houston Law Center (UHLC) has risen to the upper tier of U.S. legal education. Three of our programs —Intellectual Property and Information Law, Health Law and Policy, and the Part-Time Program — are ranked in the top ten nationally by U.S. News & World Report. The Law Center's Environment, Energy and Natural Resources program ranks 28th. The LL.M. programs in Health Law and Policy and Environment, Energy and Natural Resources are ranked in the top ten in the world. Moreover, UHLC is ranked in the top of "Go-To" law schools, and SoFi recently ranked the Law Center as number 4 in the nation among law schools with the best salaries of graduates as compared to student debt.
The Law Center's status and increased recognition is challenged, however, by its nearly 50-year-old facilities, built in bygone days of legal education; the present facilities make it difficult to adapt to the teaching and technologies of today and tomorrow. The law school building simply fails to reflect or represent the educational excellence within. President Renu Khator, Dean Leonard M. Baynes and the Law Center's faculty, staff and alumni are committed to boosting the power of UH legal education by constructing a new state-of-the-art building designed to give UHLC's approximately 800 students the resources that will ensure their success.
A new, modern facility will accelerate UHLC's ascendance to our goal of a top 40 U.S. News & World Report ranking. An ultramodern learning environment will expand faculty resources, galvanize recruitment and attract students with increased academic credentials. A new UHLC facility will provide modern research space, new clinical facilities, a new library, practice courtrooms and expanded career services space. It will also provide a forum for exclusive events on campus – in which to invite peers from other academic institutions, prominent judges, lawyers and practitioners from across the country – to legal and policy symposia, conferences and social events reflective of this great institution. To construct this state-of-the-art facility, the Law Center has set a goal of securing $10 million in commitments from private donors, supporters and friends of UHLC, to supplement public and other sources of funding.
Since it opened, the Law Center has produced leaders in the legal community. In the dynamic city of Houston, UHLC graduates account for one-in-four attorneys. Forbes magazine has dubbed Houston "America's next great global city." This new facility would position UHLC as one of the premier legal institutions in the country, preparing practice-ready attorneys for the global workforce in one of America's leading cities.
The support of our alumni and friends is critical to the success of this initiative, and we ask each of you to support the new Law Center building. Everyone can make a difference, no matter the size of the gift.
The Cornerstone Club honors a distinguished group of leaders, who fulfill a commitment of $250,000 or more towards the $10 million goal for construction of the new Law Center building. The Cornerstone Club will serve as the premier giving society for the building campaign. These gifts serve as the "cornerstone," providing significant momentum towards building a new learning facility. Cornerstone Club members have the benefit of providing input on facilities design, first rights to naming opportunities, and permanent recognition on a prominent donor wall of honor.

Alumni and community support is critical to creating true center for cross-disciplinary education and scholarship. Modern technology and flexible space will enhance student learning and faculty expertise by bringing industry leaders to the UHLC– increasing its economic, policy, and social impact across the region and globe. The new building design will be accessible to the broader community, empowering the public to access legal support through the clinics and educational resources. Most importantly, the new facility will provide the catalyst for the UH Law Center to move into the upper echelon of law schools in the nation.
