The University of Houston Law Center (UHLC) Upper Level Mentoring Program pairs upper class students with attorneys to aid with the transition to practice. An extension of the Upper Level Mentoring Program, Part-Time Partners, addresses the specific needs of part-time students by connecting current students with alumni of the UHLC part-time program who "partner" with the Career Development Office to help provide guidance and tools for part-time UHLC students.
Mentors for both programs make a one-year commitment to their assigned mentee(s) to offer assistance with the varied aspects of professional development, including choosing a career path, networking, and their job search. Mentors may specify how many students they would like to be assigned (up to 3). Mentors may participate in both the Upper Level Mentor Program and the Part-Time Partners Program, with a maximum total number of mentees of 3. To the extent possible, students are matched with attorneys based on practice areas of interest and law firm/organization preference.
Suggested Mentor/Mentee Activities
Once mentor/mentee matches are provided following the Kick-Off, mentors and mentees are encouraged to contact each other at their earliest convenience.
Mentors might consider arranging some of the following activities:
UHLC will also be in touch throughout the year to highlight possible events and activities for mentors and mentees to do together.
Registration has ended for the 2018-2019 Upper Level Mentoring Program and Part-Time Partners Program. Please re-visit this page in Summer 2019 to register for the 2019-2020 programs.
