Mayor honors alumna and municipal Judge Rendon with Hispanic Heritage Award

Sept. 25, 2015 – Judge and University of Houston Law Center alumna Josefina M. Rendon will be honored with a lifetime achievement award during Houston Mayor Annise Parker’s 2015 Hispanic Heritage Award reception Oct. 5.

A legal pioneer, Rendon ’76 was chosen for her “outstanding contributions toward enhancing the quality of life and advancement of Houston’s Hispanic community.” 

As part of Houston Heritage Month, the event will honor Rendon as one of the city’s first female Hispanic attorneys, the first woman and first Hispanic Civil Service Commissioner for the city of Houston, the first Latina in Harris County to serve as a state civil district judge, a successful mediator and proponent of alternative dispute resolution, and longtime associate municipal court judge.

“The University of Houston Law Center opened many doors for me,” Rendon said. “I feel both blessed and proud to be a graduate.”

The reception will be 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 5, at the Museum of Fine Arts
