Feb. 3, 2016 - Members of the Houston Immigration Legal Services Collaborative, including the University of Houston Law Center, will participate in a training and information workshop Feb. 10 for those who provide legal services to immigrants.
Geoffrey Hoffman, a clinical associate professor and director of the Immigration Clinic at the Law Center, will speak on the Supreme Court’s recent grant of certiorari in the U.S. v. Texas case at the training session hosted by Neighborhood Centers. Also speaking on relief for immigrants will be Josephine Sorgwe, a clinical supervising fellow working in the immigration clinic.
Topics to be covered include: DAPA judicial update; advocacy methods/messaging (local and national); access to other legal and non-legal services; cultural competency; legal screening beyond DACA/DAPA; and preventing unauthorized practice of law.
The free workshop is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Leonel Castillo Community Center, 2101 South Street. CLE credit is pending. RSVP to email@example.com.
