Feb. 19, 2016 -- The University of Houston Law Center will offer a new scholarship in memory of Brenda Karabatsos, a 1988 alumna, after an initial gift of $25,000 was donated by her mother to establish the endowment.

Karabatsos’ mother Georgia Bass, will bequeath an additional $500,000 from her estate to complete the funding. Details of the Brenda Karabatsos Memorial Scholarship have not been finalized, but it will be geared toward female students and will be awarded starting in the Spring 2017 semester. Bass and the Law Center will be involved in the selection of the recipient.

Karabastos practiced as a civil trial attorney and achieved success in moot court competitions during her time at the Law Center. She passed away in 1994.

“After studying commercial law at the University of Texas, she was able to come to the Law Center and really excel,” Bass said. “She loved studying law and being on the UH campus. Since her passing I really have wanted to do something in her memory that would make a difference to some aspiring law students who need assistance. It’s my way of giving back to others in her memory.”
