May 13, 2016 – University of Houston Law Center Dean Leonard M. Baynes and Professor Jessica L. Roberts are among 16 faculty members and librarians featured on posters as part of the campus library system's UH READ campaign to encourage reading and lifelong learning.
The first group of colorful posters, spotlighting recently tenured or promoted faculty and staff, will be placed in the MD Anderson Library Leisure Reading area.
Dean of Libraries Lisa German, who believes reading plays an important role in personal and professional development, modeled the UH campaign on the American Library Association Celebrity READ posters that first appeared in 1985.
"It is a delight to participate in this campaign which also celebrates the Law Center's most recently tenured faculty member, Jessica Roberts," Baynes said. "I tip my hat to Dean German for creating such an auspicious program that brings all sectors of the campus together to celebrate the achievements of our colleagues. Most importantly, it all started with reading."
Roberts, an associate professor and director of the Law Center's Health Law & Policy Institute, explained how one book she read recently made an impact on her work habits.
"The promise of stress-free productivity is an alluring one for academics in particular because so much of our work is self-supervised," she said. "Getting Things Done" revolutionized my work style and made me more organized and prolific. It has been my not-so-secret weapon."
