May 20, 2013 -- The University of Houston Law Alumni Association tonight will present 12 awards to alumni, faculty, and staff for their outstanding support of the Law Center and legal profession through the years.

"The recipients are an accomplished and generous group of professionals who have consistently given to the law school, to our alumni association, to our community, and to our profession," outgoing Association President Bill Jackson '92 stated in announcing this year's awards.

The board will honor Professor Emeritus John Mixon '55 with the Faculty Distinction Award. Mixon retired earlier this year after 60 years at the law school. Fourteenth Court of Appeals Chief Justice Adele Hedges '74 will be recognized as Alumna of the Year. Other awards will be presented to an outstanding staff member, volunteer, and corporate, public and private sector supporters.

The annual meeting, during which the incoming 2013-2014 Alumni Association board will assume its duties, will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Coronado Club downtown.
