New UHLC Dean Baynes to be honored with an ‘Evening in Harlem’

May 29, 2014 – The incoming dean of the University of Houston Law Center, Leonard M. Baynes, will be honored in June as a “renowned champion” by St. John’s University School of Law.

Baynes, and St. John’s law school graduate U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel, D-NY, will be recognized for their achievements during “An Evening in Harlem,” which includes a tour of the historic Apollo Theater and a reception at the popular Red Rooster Harlem restaurant.

A graduate of Columbia Law School and Columbia Graduate School of Business, Baynes is a professor and inaugural director of The Ronald H. Brown Center for Civil Rights and Economic Development at St. John’s School of Law located in Queens, New York.

Baynes will assume his new duties at the Law Center on Aug. 15.
