UHLC Prof. Thompson examines forensic science in her latest book

Sandra Guerra Thompson

June 1, 2015 – University of Houston Law Center Professor Sandra Guerra Thompson will read excerpts from her latest book, “Cops in Lab Coats,” on Wednesday at Brazos Bookstore. The book deals with the critical importance of forensic science in the criminal justice system. (Read more about the book here.)

Thompson, director of the law school’s Criminal Justice Institute and a former prosecutor, draws upon her studies of wrongful convictions, scientific mishandling in the lab room, and the legal interplay of analysts and lawyers to underscore the need for independent crime labs nationwide.

Thompson currently serves on the board of the Houston Forensic Science Center, a crime lab created in 2014 that is independent from the Houston Police Department.  As a member of the nine-member commission, Thompson helped with the transition to the new forensic center and monitors operations.

The author will read excerpts from her book starting at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 3, at Brazos Bookstore, 2421 Bissonnet. See the Facebook event.
