UHLC Prof. Chandler to testify before Congress on insurance cost impacts of Obamacare

June 23, 2015—University of Houston Law Center Professor Seth Chandler is slated to testify Wednesday at a hearing of the U.S. House of Representatives Ways and Committee Subcommittee on Oversight on the effects of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) also called “Obamacare.” The focus of his testimony will be on the sources of premium increases under the ACA.

Chandler, the Foundation Professor of Law, specializes in insurance law and related fields such as health law, economic analysis of law and contract drafting. Until recently, he served as director of UHLC’s Health Law & Policy Institute.

The hearing, called by the subcommittee’s chairman, Rep. Peter Roskam, R-Ill., will be held in the Longworth House Office Building on Capitol Hill, beginning at 9 a.m. Central Time. The hearing will be live-streamed on the committee’s website, according to a Roskam staff member.

Also scheduled to testify are Julie McPeak, commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance; Al Redmer, Jr., commissioner of the Maryland Insurance Administration; and Mike Kriedler, Washington State Insurance Commissioner.
