Faculty and staff commemorate UH Law Center's resilience, reflect on one-year mark of remote work

April 8, 2021 - University of Houston Law Center administrators, staff and professors socialized and commemorated the school's accomplishments and versatility shifting to online operations throughout the COVID-19 pandemic during a recent gathering held on Zoom.

"I really want to thank our faculty and staff for their efforts and work to help us smoothly move online to this virtual world,” said Dean Leonard M. Baynes. “Without everyone's efforts, we wouldn't be where we are today."

The event began with a moment of silence to honor and reflect on the lives lost and impacted by the pandemic.

Baynes then highlighted the faculty's accomplishments such as the election of Clinical Professor Janet Heppard to the 387th District Court in Fort Bend County, Professor Sandra Guerra Thompson being recognized by the City of Houston, Professor Dave Fagundes and Professor Bret Wells being elected to the American Law Institute. Faculty member’s scholarly productivity was also highlighted, including some being published among the top law reviews in the country.

Attendees viewed a video showcasing how Law Center faculty and staff have spent the past year, and then broke into breakout rooms for casual conversations in small groups.
