This course is only available to LL.M. students or students in the joint J.D./LL.M. program. This course is only needed for LL.M. students when they opt to take the thesis course.
Taking the thesis course is not mandatory for LL.M. students.
The course is a writing course where you approach a professor with a proposal to write under the professor’s supervision of your LL.M. thesis. Almost always, this means a professor you already know.
As an LL.M. student, you will have a course selection advisor assigned to you. That advisor is often a faculty member, but that does not mean that the course selection advisor faculty member is automatically your thesis supervisor. The course selection advisor may assist you with obtaining a thesis supervisor, or may consent to supervise the thesis, but he or she is not automatically allocated for thesis supervision.
