You will receive an invitation to attend the University of Houston Graduate School Orientation. Please be advised, the only orientation you are required to attend is the Law Center's orientation.

Parking

You will have the opportunity to apply for a parking permit with our "Zone Parking" system in mid-July.  All parking lots on campus are designated to zones by proximity to various buildings. Zone B, Zone C, and the Elgin Street Garage are the closest to the Law Center. You will receive an email from Admissions with detailed information on how to purchase your parking permit. For additional information please visit Parking & Transportation

Another option you may want to consider is joining COAST (Coogs on Alternative and Sustainable Transportation). COAST is an incentive program for individuals who carpool or utilize alternative and sustainable options to get to campus. Individuals who are interested in participating in COAST or learning more about it can reach out to the COAST team by scheduling an appointment or sending an email to coast@uh.edu.

Housing

All UHLC students are eligible for on-campus housing.  Due to the proximity to the Law Center, the most popular on-campus housing option is the University Lofts. For all available on-campus options visit Student Housing and Residential Life. There are also many options for nearby off-campus housing.

Health Insurance

Health insurance options are available to all incoming UHLC students. Information regarding the available health plans can be found on the Health Center website.

Prep Courses

Admitted students commonly ask how to best prepare for the first year of law school. Law school will be different from any academic endeavor you have faced, and the best way to be successful is to come into the fall semester with an understanding of what to expect. Please be advised, the information provided below is optional and we do not specifically endorse any particular program.

  • Optional Reading – we compiled a list of book titles recommended by UHLC faculty. These readings are optional, but past incoming students have found that reading one or two of the books was helpful.
  • CLEO 1L Prep - Attitude Is Essential – an intensive two day online workshop for first year law students. https://cleoinc.org/aie/
  • CLEO Prelaw Summer Institute – a six-week online program with the goal of bringing together students from diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic and geographical backgrounds and provide training necessary to successfully prepare and navigate the road to law school. https://cleoinc.org/plsi/
