Robert W. Jones, a member of the University of Houston Law Center’s class of 1991, takes the helm for Texas Exes
July 30, 2025 – Robert W. Jones (J.D. ’91) was recently named chief executive officer of Texas Exes, the official alumni association for the University of Texas at Austin. He assumed the role in May.
Jones, who earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Texas in 1987, is excited about working with the organization.
“It is a dream job,” Jones said. “I spent more than 30 years in corporate America and had a great career. When that came to an end, I was looking for a new chapter. This became an opportunity. If you’re at a point in your career when you can give back, there’s nothing better. I wake up every morning, and it seems like I’m not going to a job, but a cause I love.”
Previously, Jones spent 19 years at Pfizer as a national vice president for U.S. Government Relations and as a senior vice president. He then became the managing director of Mercury Public Affairs, and a corporate affairs consultant and nonprofit board member for UT at Austin. Jones credits his legal training for preparing him for his many executive roles in government relations, corporate affairs and the nonprofit sector public policy and public affairs,
“I’m forever proud of my law degree,” Jones said. “For your career going forward, a law school degree is hard to beat. Getting a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center really prepared me for different challenges in leadership. It trained me to have more of an analytical thought process and analysis of a situation. It really assisted my career in a lot of ways.”
