The Honorable Alvin L. Zimmerman graduated UH ’64 (BS) ’67 (JD) and was Managing Editor of Houston Law Review (HLR). He served as Judge in the Houston Municipal Court, Harris County District Courts: 309th Family and lastly, 269th Civil Court from 1977-1984. He received the University of Houston Outstanding Alumnus Award and UH Law Center Dean’s Award. He was a founding shareholder of Zimmerman, Axelrad prior to its combination with Spencer Fane LLP. He served in leadership positions including Chair for the following organizations: UH Alumni Association, UH Law Alumni Association, HLR Foundation, HLR, Inc., UH Foundation. He received the Outstanding Texas Mediator -TX Mediator Credentialing Association, Frank Evans’ Outstanding Mediator - State Bar of Texas ADR Section and the David Gibson Professionalism Family Lawyer Award and he has been a frequent lecturer at the UHLC. For years he has practiced with both of his sons, Brian and Gary. He married his wife, Susie while at UH Law Center.
