March 18, 2022 – Law.com has selected the University of Houston Law Center as one of the top 30 law schools in the nation when it comes to sending graduates to associate positions with “Big Law.” The Law Center moved up 3 spots to No. 27 from its No. 30 ranking in 2021. It is the highest UHLC has ranked since the list began in 2010. UHLC also moved up to the number 2 ranked go-to law school in the state of Texas.

The rankings are based on the employment success of the class of 2021 who secured associate attorney positions with the top 100 law firms that are considered to be among the largest and most prestigious in the country.

“I am very proud that the Law Center moved up to number 27 in the nation in Law.com’s Go-To rankings,” said UH Law Center Dean Leonard M. Baynes. “These rankings reflect what we know about the spectacular service that our Career Development Office provides to our students as well as the talent, capability, perseverance and grit of our students. I am delighted that more employers recognize that they get the whole package when they hire University of Houston Law Center students.”

“The Law Center combines a top tier legal education with top notch career and professional development training provided by its Career Development Office (CDO),” added Assistant Dean for Career Development Tiffany Tucker. “The CDO’s exceptional team of attorneys equip Law Center students and graduates with the resources and skills to successfully identify, generate, and navigate professional opportunities. Employers seek out Law Center candidates because they know our candidates have received essential professionalism training through programs like the Passport to Success - Professional Development Series (mandatory 1L professionalism training), as well as year-round advising and 30+ networking and recruiting events to connect with legal employers.”

The Law Center’s academic and career placement strength continues to rise as the law school prepares to debut its new state of the art John M. O’Quinn Law Building in Fall 2022. One of the nation’s top legal markets, Houston is also home to the world’s largest health care and medical complex and recognized as the energy capital of the world with multiple Fortune 500 companies headquartered here.

Law.com defines its methodology as follows: “The Go-To Law Schools report ranks the top 50 law schools by percentage of 2021 juris doctors who took jobs at the largest 100 firms by lawyer head count—as identified in The National Law Journal’s annual survey of the nation’s 500 largest law firms.”
