Course Outline: Description - This course covers the conduct of lawyers, their ethical and legal responsibilities, in public interest and a solo practitioner practice. It is a required course and will focus on the Model Rules of Professional Conduct and the current law governing lawyers’ conduct. The study of these Rules will be in the context of public interest and solo practice, with an emphasis on the role of lawyers in representing children, families, criminal defendants, and the state in criminal prosecutions.

First Day Assignments: Read Preamble and Scope of the Model Rules and Preamble, Preliminary Statement and Canon 1 of the Model Code. Read Hard Choices: Thoughts for New Lawyers, that can be downloaded here downloaded here.
