Roxella T. Cavazos ‘82 Endowed Scholarship in Law
Committed to service and leadership, Roxella Cavazos has served in leadership roles with
the American Bar Association (ABA), worked on projects for the Texas Young Lawyers
Association and wrote papers and chapters in several books published by the ABA. She is
Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law. She established this scholarship to recognize
a student who has financial need, exhibits good moral character and a strong work ethic.

Houston Bar Association, Tax Section Scholarship
The purpose of the Tax Section Scholarship is to promote the objectives and standards of
professionalism of the Houston Bar Association within the field of tax. This scholarship is
awarded to a law student who has shown exemplary success in coursework in tax.

Ira B. Shepard Memorial Scholarship
In memory of Ira Shepard, one of the nation’s leading experts on tax law, who had a
passion for teaching tax courses and speaking at various conferences around the country
on cutting edge tax law issues. This scholarship recognizes students who show interest
in a career in tax law, through coursework, internships, and other activities.

Michael E. Todd ’04 Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of the Michael Todd, an expert United
States Treasury Internal Revenue Service agent, who loved all tax topics, as well
as sharing his knowledge with others, especially students. The scholarship is
awarded to UHLC students who have an interest in a career in taxation.

Nathan O. Sauers
The Judge John R. Brown Foundation Scholarship
The Honorable John R. Brown served on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit
as one of the nation’s most prominent admiralty judges from 1955 until his death in 1993.
This award was established to recognize a student who has a strong interest in admiralty.

Gil Epstein ’94 Scholarship
In memory of Gil Epstein, a dedicated prosecutor who had a passion for the law and
protecting the rights of abused women, this scholarship is awarded to a student who
plans to be a criminal lawyer and has shown great promise in that regard.
