          UHLC Welcomes Martha Fineman

          On March 28,
          2022, UHLC & Events
          welcomed Martha
          Fineman, the Robert
          W. Woodruff
          Professor of Law (continued)
          at Emory Law
          School. Professor
          Fineman joined
us virtually as part Professor Martha Fineman, Emory Law School
of the UHLC Colloquium Speaker Series. In her talk, she discussed her
essay A Feminist Sense of Social Justice. In it, she explores the origin of the term “social justice” and its
incompatibility with the current dominant approaches to human rights and liberalism, which focus
on the dominance of individualism and its associated principles of autonomy, independence, and
individual responsibility. Fineman presents an early strain of feminist legal theory that provides a more
comprehensive and inclusive dimension of justice as social and structural.

HLPI Advisory Board Adds New Member

This spring, we welcomed Scott Chase (J.D. ‘71, UH ‘68) to our esteemed
HLPI Advisory Board. Scott Chase recently retired from Farrow-Gillespie
Heath Witter LLP after 50 years of practice. A pioneer in Texas health
law, he was among the first lawyers to be Board Certified in Health Law
by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and was a founding member
of the Dallas Bar Association Health Law Section. Scott Chase has long
been a generous supporter of HLPI through student scholarships, and we
are excited to welcome him to the Advisory Board. We look forward to
benefiting from his incredible experience and expertise. Scott Chase (J.D. ‘71, UH ‘68)
