UH Law Center professor available to comment on landmark Google antitrust ruling

Samantha Medlin, a University of Houston Law Center 2024 graduate and Criminal Law Association President for the '23-'24 academic year

August 06, 2024 — In the U.S. v Google antitrust case, the court ruled that Google violated the Sherman Act by maintaining a monopoly in general search services and text advertising.

Professor Nikolas Guggenberger of the University of Houston Law Center, an expert in antitrust, technology, and regulation, is available to provide expert commentary and analysis on this significant legal development.

Professor Guggenberger’s Takeaways:

  • "The DOJ’s victory in court is a game changer for competition online. It puts monopolists on notice and may open the search engine market after a quarter century of domination by Google."
  • "The impact of the decision will largely hinge on the remedies, a question the court has not decided yet."
  • "The decision proves the critics of the DOJ’s and the FTC’s more aggressive enforcement wrong; the enforcers were well within their right."
