UH Law Center Assistant Professor Portuondo wins rising scholar award

Sept. 5, 2024 - Laura Portuondo of the University of Houston Law Center has received the Haub Law Emerging Scholar Award in Women, Gender & Law from the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University. She received the recognition for a paper titled, “Gendered Liberty” which will be featured in the Georgetown Law Journal next year.

Portuondo, an Assistant Professor of Law, joined the Law Center in 2023. She teaches Constitutional Law and Reproductive Rights and Justice. She previously worked as a clinical fellow for the Reproductive Rights and Justice Project at Yale Law School

Portuondo is a 2018 graduate of Yale Law School, and served as senior editor of the Yale Law Journal. She was also a founding member of the Reproductive Rights and Justice Clinic, and a board member of the Yale Latinx Law Students Association. She also received her undergraduate education from Yale University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in English.
