UH Law Center Appoints Three Legal Experts to Further Strengthen Clinical Programs and Experiential Learning

Sept. 4, 2026 – The University of Houston Law Center has augmented its clinical programs this fall with the addition of three veteran attorneys, including alumna Jen Gaut (J.D. ’08), assistant chief of the Felony Trial Division at the Harris County Public Defender’s Office, who joins the Law Center as the director of the Criminal Justice Clinic and an adjunct professor while continuing in her Harris County role.
Gaut joins the faculty as the director of UH Law’s Criminal Justice Clinic and an adjunct professor, while continuing in her Harris County role. The Law Center also welcomed alumnus Luke Gilman (J.D. ’10) as an adjunct professor at the Civil Justice Clinic and Yvonne London as program director for clinical programs.
Together, the new appointees bring expertise in criminal defense, public-interest law and commercial litigation to UHLC.
“All three of our new team members bring years of legal experience and leadership in their respective fields,” said Assistant Dean of Clinical Programs Anna Cabot. “Their knowledge and skills will be invaluable to both our students and their clients. They enrich our clinical programs and allow us to give our students the very best practical legal training.”
In her UH Law role, Jen Gaut will teach criminal law and procedure and supervise students as they assist her with complex criminal defense cases at the clinic. A 2008 graduate of UH Law, she interned with Justice Eva Guzman at the 14th Court of Appeals as a student. She also has undergraduate degrees in criminology, sociology and psychology and a master’s degree in sociology from Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Luke Gilman, who earned both his bachelor’s degree and his J.D. from the University of Houston and has an MBA from Rice University, will co-teach at the Civil Justice Clinic with professors Ryan Marquez and Nour Acosta. He will supervise students handling consumer, landlord/tenant, and family law cases. Founder and owner of Flywheel Law PLLC and a former partner at Jackson Walker LLP, Gilman has expertise in complex commercial and contract litigation, media and technology disputes, electronic discovery, computer forensic investigations, and legal research.
As program director of the clinics program, Yvonne London will oversee operations, including client intake, case management, fiscal management, human resources, marketing and outreach. She joins UH Law after serving as interim director of the Texas Fair Defense Project, where she worked since 2022. Previously, she worked at the Earl Carl Institute for Legal and Social Policy, Inc., the New York City Department for Education, the Administration of Children’s Services and taught as an adjunct at the Thurgood Marshall School of Law. London earned her J.D. from Wayne State University Law School and a bachelor's degree in history and political science from Rutgers University. She is licensed to practice in Texas and New York.
The appointments reflect the Law Center’s continued commitment to experiential learning, providing students opportunities to represent real clients, tackle real-world challenges under faculty supervision, and develop practical skills needed to succeed in legal careers.
