FEB. 6, 2026—Representatives from government agencies and public institutions met with students during the University of Houston Law Center’s annual Government and Public Interest Table Talk in January. Organized by the Career Development Office, the recruiting event featured 44 different employers sharing information about internships and employment opportunities.

Participating organizations ranged from the Office of the Attorney General of Texas to the MD Anderson Cancer Center, giving students a chance to discuss career goals and explore a variety of legal practice areas.

“The GPITT is one of our biggest recruiting events each year,” said Bill Powers, director of judicial clerkship and externship programs at UHLC.  “There is something for everyone, regardless of what kind of legal career a student may plan to have.”

Following the event, students and employers will follow up with each other about working together, he added. GPITT has connected UH law students with public interest employers for more than 20 years.

The CDO’s upcoming events include two Litigation Lunch and Learns, a Discourse Over Disputes: A Litigation Learning Event, “So You Want to be a Tax Lawyer” presentation, as well as a Summer Associate Bootcamp sponsored by CDO and the Houston Young Lawyers Association in February. The Small and Midsize Firms Open House is scheduled for March.
