UH Law Professor Gina S. Warren Elected to American Law Institute

July, 02, 2026 — University of Houston Law Center Professor Gina S. Warren has been selected to be a member of the American Law Institute (ALI), an organization that produces scholarship to clarify, modernize and improve the law.
Founded in 1923, ALI brings together judges, lawyers and scholars to produce influential legal works, including Restatements of the Law, Model Codes and Principles of Law, which guide courts, legislatures and legal education nationwide.
“I am humbled and honored to be an elected member of the American Law Institute. I've long admired the Institute's commitment to improving the law through rigorous research and thoughtful collaboration,” Warren said. “I'm excited for the opportunity to contribute to work that helps shape the future of American law."
Warren holds the A.L. O’Quinn Chair in Environmental Studies and serves as co-director of the Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Center at UH Law Center. Her teaching and research focus on the intersection of environmental law, property, social justice and energy. Her scholarship published in leading law reviews, books and peer-reviewed journals.
Before joining UH Law Center in 2016, Warren taught at Texas A&M University School of Law and Duquesne University School of Law. She has also taught internationally in Germany and Mexico.
Warren has held numerous leadership roles in the legal academy and profession, including serving as past chair of the Association of American Law Schools Section on Natural Resources and Energy Law. She is also a member of the organization’s Environmental Law, Property Law and Women’s Law sections and has contributed to several section subcommittees.
Her professional service includes work with national and international organizations. She has served as the law school representative for the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation and as an advisory board member for the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators. She is also a past chair of academic outreach for the Institute for Energy Law.
There are now 18 UH Law Center faculty who are members of ALI including Dean Leonard M. Baynes and Professors Christina Crozier, David R. Dow, Meredith J. Duncan, Tracy D. Hester, Lonny Hoffman, Douglas K. Moll, Renee Knake Jefferson, Sandra Guerra Thompson, Elizabeth Trujillo and Bret Wells.
