Part-Time Evening Program

US News ranked #8 program
A legal education within the reach of modern working professionals

If you are a working professional seeking to complement your career or begin a new one with a highly-respected legal education, the University of Houston Law Center is for you.  Our Part-Time Evening Program is designed to allow you to attend law school while maintaining career, financial, and family obligations.

Ranked #8 nationally, your legal education will be taught by the same world-class faculty as our our day program students during a time that best coordinates with your schedule.  A typical evening student completes their J.D. degree in four consecutive academic years, meeting for classes between the hours of 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Monday through Thursday.  You will be given priority for all courses taught in the evening and have equal access to all student programs which include Law Review, moot court, or other student-run activities.  In addition, you will have access to the full breadth and depth of our Office of Career Development which can help you navigate your next steps upon graduation.

We are immensely proud of our Part-Time Evening Program as it is as rigorous and respected as our day program.  In fact, employers often seek out our part-time evening graduates given their proven track record to balance work, school, and family obligations. Among our part-time evening alumni are accomplished law partners and executives at major corporations as well as members of the judiciary.

Come learn about the great camaraderie, cooperation, and collegiality of our top ranked Part-Time Evening Program.

WHAT WOULD MY SCHEDULE LOOK LIKE?

Beginning in the fall, your first year of law school in our Part-Time Evening Program consists of the required courses, which generally meet Monday – Thursday evenings between the hours of 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  During your first year of law school, there is a summer component to your schedule.  After your first year of law school, you will have flexibility in the courses you wish to take, which includes attending classes during the day where practicable.  Our Office of Student Affairs is dedicated to helping you navigate your course schedule selections throughout your time in law school.

Here is a snapshot of your schedule:

HOW DO I APPLY?

The application process is the same for full-time day and part-time evening students with the exception of the deadline for your application.  The deadline for applying for our Part-Time Evening Program is May 15.

ARE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE? WHAT IS THE TUITION?

As a part-time evening student, you are as eligible to receive the breadth of financial aid offerings as our our day program students, which include merit scholarships as well as federal and private loans to help pay for your education.  We are unique in that we have our own dedicated financial aid advisor on staff to help you navigate the process of paying for your education.

CAN I TRANSFER TO THE DAY PROGRAM?

If your circumstances change or you wish to complete your legal education in fewer than four years, you may apply to transfer to the our day program.  Your application may be submitted after you complete your first year of law school and will be reviewed by the Office of Student Affairs. After your first year of law school, you are permitted to take day classes to fit your schedule even if you choose to remain in the Part-Time Evening Program.
