It's a simple fact that housing dollars go further in Houston than in virtually any other metropolitan area in the United States. Houston is a huge and bustling metropolis with an almost unlimited variety of housing options, from off-campus apartments and houses to campus housing.
Students who will not have their own transportation should consider campus housing or student apartments located next to the campus. Public transportation is limited.

Campus housing, especially newer housing like University Lofts, fills up very quickly. Students interested in living on campus are encouraged to confirm arrangements as soon as possible.
Most apartment complexes charge a security deposit that may not be refundable if you decided to live elsewhere. Deposits for campus housing are generally refunded if a student decides not to attend the University of Houston.
Houston is traversed by numerous highways - the ‘Eastex’ the ‘Gulf’, the ‘Southwest’ the ‘Beltway’. Eventually you will learn them all. As you search for an apartment, you will want to know whether you are inside or outside the “Loop.”
Loop 610 is a major highway encircling the inner part of the city, including Downtown, the Medical Center, the Heights, Greenway Plaza, West University, Allen Parkway, and Midtown. Additionally, the Loop runs adjacent to Uptown and Bellaire among many other attractive neighborhoods. Living inside or outside the Loop will impact the amount of time you spend traveling to school every day.
Houston Heights/Washington Ave.
Quirky and offbeat, “the Heights” is beautifully preserved Houston history. But you’ll also find just as many families and retirees among these eclectic arts-and-crafts bungalows, antique shops, and local coffeehouses. Washington Avenue, once a strip of industrial relics, has exploded into Houston’s newest entertainment district.
Montrose
Historic. Eclectic. Bohemian. Artsy. GLBT-friendly. Pierced and tattooed. In addition to good times and great people-watching, the area offers plenty of affordable housing options less than four miles from the Law Center. Look for garage apartments, duplexes, fourplexes, or rooms for rent among the porch-swing bungalows.
Downtown
Home to some of the world’s largest law firms and more than 100 courts, downtown Houston offers Law Center students a wealth of opportunity right outside their front door.
Midtown
A vibrant and trendy mixed-use community with a variety of dining, shopping, and entertainment venues within walking distance of large loft-style apartment communities. Home to young professionals who know how to work and play.
Historic Third Ward
Two new light rail lines and two institutions of higher learning – the University of Houston and Texas Southern University – make this close-in neighborhood one of the city’s most accessible and diverse.
University of Houston Main Campus
Law Center students may avail themselves of upscale graduate housing in the University Lofts, 10 dining halls and food courts, cross-campus shuttle service, a state-of-the-art recreation facility, and even a pub – all within walking distance of the Law Center. Even amidst a bustling city like Houston, UH offers a rich student life right on campus.
Museum District/Hermann Park
Hermann Park is a 445-acre urban oasis complete with a zoo, paddleboats, jogging trails, Japanese Gardens, and its own little railroad. Eighteen museums comprise the adjacent Museum District, an eclectic neighborhood with tree-lined streets, historic homes, small apartment communities, fourplexes, and other housing options.
Texas Medical Center/Reliant Park
The world’s largest medical complex offers Law Center students – especially those in our nationally-ranked Health Law program – unrivaled access to the broadest range of health-related internship and career
opportunities imaginable. The area has a variety of apartments and condominiums with easy access to NRG Park’s sporting and entertainment events.
Rice/West U./Bellaire/Upper Kirby
Rice Village is a unique dichotomy of upscale establishments and college haunts, while West University Place and Bellaire – cities within the city – are upper-middle class bedroom communities. New loft apartments
and high-rise condos define the urban chic of Upper Kirby. Many of the Law Center’s second-career students live in these areas.
Galleria/Greenway Plaza/River Oaks/Memorial
World-class shopping and dining, a thriving business district, upscale apartments, a high concentration of law firms, and quick access to Memorial Park, an inner city green space nearly twice the size of New York’s Central Park.
There are numerous options available on campus for students who want to truly immerse themselves in the academic environment. In August 2009, the University Lofts, located adjacent to the Law Center, welcomed its first residents. From Moody Towers, a dormitory environment, to Cougar Place, Cambridge Oaks, Bayou Oaks, and Cullen Oaks (on-campus apartments), students have several choices on the University of Houston campus. On-campus housing is a convenient and affordable option. For more information call (713) 743-6000 or visit University of Houston Residential Life and Housing Department page.
