The Second Amendment: Where the Rubber Meets the Road
January 24, 2019
Doubletree Hotel - Downtown Houston
10:00am - 3:00pm (lunch included)
4 hours CLE credit
In 1791, the U.S. Congress ratified the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, stating, “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Since the ratification of those 27 words to the Constitution, the debate over the Second Amendment has engaged some of the brightest minds in the country. The Symposium will analyze the history and academic debate surrounding the Second Amendment and address the practical impacts of the Second Amendment on individuals and states and how municipalities are handling their blurred obligations to the public. The Symposium speakers will debate both sides of the gun rights issue. Speakers include: a gun rights attorney, a high school student gun-control advocate, and a current Houston City Councilmember/former Houston Police Officer.
